Are you looking to keep the children entertained this winter?
Kildare is the spot for a good day out with the family. From horses to steam trains, to hanging out at the largest bog in Ireland, quality time with the kids has never been so much fun.
Here are our favourite family days out for you to enjoy around this beautiful county.
1. Moore Abbey Wood
You can tick some forest adventures off your bucket list this winter at Moore Abbey Wood, Monasterevin.
Moore Abbey is probably less known than some of the other forests but the family friendly trails which stretch across 250 acres of woodland land are some of Kildare's best hidden treasures.
Grab your wellies and your raincoats, gang!
2. Clonfert Pet Farm
Donkies, rabbits, goats, llamas, pigs, and even exotics like wallabies live at Clonfert Pet Farm in Maynooth!
The kids can have an all round fantastic day petting and feeding the animals whilst soaking up farm life. Word of warning though – you might want to check for extra passengers before you leave – those pet bunnies are pretty cute.
3. A day at the races
Known as the 'horse-county' of Ireland, a day at the races is a must-do activity in Kildare.
Whether it's at Punchestown or The Curragh, the thrill of the racing action is a super day out for making family memories that will last a lifetime.
Give the kids a euro and let them back their winner – there’s nothing like winning, especially for your little one.
4. The Steam Museum
The Steam Museum in Kildare is a perfect destination for a family outing. The museum has two halls, one displaying inventors & experimental model locomotives and the other with actual steam engines.
But... if you're not into machines or trains there's a gorgeous 18th century walled garden to stroll around.
All aboard for the Steam Museum!
5. The Kildare Maze
Most kids love a bit of adventure so why not take them to the The Kildare Maze at Prosperous where they will be challenged and probably exhausted by the time you're going home.
Grown to mark the Millennium, the maze is actually designed in the shape of a St. Brigid's Cross so there's a bit of culture as well as fun.

Kildare is known for its horses, but forests must come a close second.
